Foreword by Scott Macdonald

Willingness to learn takes great strength and is a wonderful attribute to pass on to your child. This is a first step and the opportunity to make simple, powerful changes in your life. I invite you to continue with the strength, openness, and willingness you have shown this far and continue to apply it in reading this book.

This book has been written to enhance your self-awareness. Further down in “The Roots of This Book,” I have put some of my story, not just so you can get to know who I am, but so you can relate with the feelings and reactions I had while struggling to make a place in the world for my family. Our events and experiences will be different but we want the same things for our families though often we become lost and take the hardest road without realizing it. Keep reading to find yourself and find your way.

Fit For Fatherhood

What this book Can Do For You

Congratulations! You have made huge strides in increasing your awareness. Through this you will have the ability to see and understand what your priorities truly are. You will be able to seize opportunities to learn and become stronger rather than default into a guilt/shame spiral. So when or if you miss a day or two or more of your exercises or putting your meals together, see it for the opportunity that it is to gain more awareness of that negative voice. Don’t forget to celebrate the fact that you are even aware of the change in your structure.

Nutrition:

Eat more! Learn what, when, why and how to eat. Learn about why you haven’t been able to do that already.

Physical Wellness:

A simple program you can do anywhere. Structured for a “no time for myself” life.  Sustainable by anyone at any level.

Pregnancy and Your Relationship:

What you can expect to happen throughout the pregnancy and what you can do to support her and yourself.

Supporting Your Partner in the First Trimester

You’re going to be a father, wow! I bet it seemed surreal when you first got the news. Don’t worry—that surreal feeling will soon be replaced by fear and panic. These feelings are normal and good signs that you are going to be a great father. This is where the awareness we have been working on will help stop our minds from taking off to “what if” land, where things can quickly become very stressful. Absolutely the best things you can do here are to let go, live in the moment, and allow yourself to enjoy this precious time.

The Phase 2 Workout

Welcome to Phase 2 of your Adrenaline Factor workout program! You should already be seeing and feeling positive changes, both physically and mentally. You will be experiencing improved energy levels, a positive outlook, and reduced stress. The simple self-care structure will accentuate balance in your life, helping you more easily identify those things not based in your best interest.

Now you have a basic biomechanical knowledge of how to move. You not only know how to move, but you know how it feels. They say knowledge is power; this is only true if that knowledge is applied. By doing the multi-joint exercises in the program, you will apply that knowledge, improving your skill, coordination, fitness level, and awareness in the process.

Eating Well—7 Rules for Success

It’s best to eat fresh produce and fruit—locally grown and ripened if available. Keep an eye on specials for meat. This will help motivate you to look outside the normal routine and try something new. When you shop, get just enough veggies to cover your meals for the week including daytime snacks and watching-a-movie snacks. Be aware of what is in season as this produce will be the freshest and tastiest, and the prices will be lower also. Unfortunately, money is an issue for most of us; try to remember your priorities. Buy your socks on sale, not your food. If you need to make financial sacrifices do not make them with what you put in your body.
